Mayware / JH Labs Formula 4 arm mods.
History: transcribed from hand written notes – author unknown. From a good few years ago by all accounts.
Not known if these notes refer to JH labs version or Mayware version. There is a reference to a sliding cursor – does this help anyone? I’ll update these notes if this can be determined for sure.
The author was plainly very happy with this arm after these mods J

My own notes are in italic.
Modifications:
- All mechanical connections (except arm tube to centre hub) glued with epoxy. This made the sound smoother and less harsh.
- Headshell heavily damped with ‘Movtite’ (spelling? – what is this stuff. Anyone know?). Made a large improvement in smoothness and solidity and transparency of sound.
- A band of Movtite added around middle of the arm tube. Results same as 1+2.
- Sliding cursor removed – it resonated- also smoothes out the sound and stabilises the image.
- Arm completely rewired with Teflon coated silver wire (single Vs stranded – doesn’t say). Made a huge improvement in airiness, cleanliness, imaging depth etc. Silver wire is amazing in its ability to ‘open up’ and add life to the sound.
- Phono leads replaced with custom pure silver (signal wire and ground jacket) leads. Wire costs $33. This is soldered to the terminal strip and hardwired into my preamp. This is fantastic. I replaced Fulton leads throughout my system with this cable. It’s by far the best sounding cable I’ve ever heard. The sound is open, alive, immediate, airy etc. etc. I just can’t say enough about it.
The arm is now tremendous. Smooth but alive and with tremendous depth imaging and airiness.
